Northwestern DB Rod Heard II will finish his college football career elsewhere.

Heard, who spent 5 years at Northwestern, is entering the NCAA transfer portal. He has eligibility for a 6th season after redshirting in 2019 and the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver applying to the 2020 season.
“I want to thank all of my teammates, coaches and staff who have made my experience at Northwestern meaningful,” Heard wrote in a note addressed to Wildcat nation. “I will be forever grateful for the memories and family we’ve built together over the years.

“After much consideration, I have decided to explore my options in the NCAA Transfer Portal for my final year.

“Thank you to the Wildcat fans and everyone who has been part of my journey so far.”
Heard had his best season yet in 2023, setting a career-high with 73 total tackles, while tying his career bests of 4 TFLs and 1 sack. He also had his best season in coverage, with a career-high 5 passes defended, including 1 interception.
