Marcus McShepard chose a good time to nab his first interception of the season.

Early in the second quarter Northwestern was down 6-0 when Mitch Leidner and the Gophers tried to catch the Wildcats off guard and throw the ball deep.

Northwestern wasn’t fooled.

McShepard covered the play well and ripped the ball out of the hands of the Gophers’ wide receiver. Initially, this close call was ruled a catch for Minnesota. After it was reviewed, the Wildcats were awarded with the pick, their 12th of the season.

McShepard is a junior and has recorded 18 tackles this season. In the past Pat Fitzgerald has argued that the defensive back might be the fastest player on the team.
