The 2022 College Football season got a big start with Northwestern getting a big upset victory over Nebraska in Dublin, Ireland with a 31-28 score. While several predicted a solid Nebraska victory, Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald had believed in his team’s abilities to win.
Fitzgerald told ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, “No one’s giving us a *bleeping* chance,” before he and his teams left the United States for Ireland on Tuesday. Nebraska entered the game as a double-digit favorite over Northwestern.
Before boarding the bus Tuesday on the way to the airport, Pat Fitzgerald told me: “No one’s giving us a f—ing chance.”
After having his least-competitive Northwestern team, a heartening start for Fitz.

Northwestern had the 17-14 lead going into halftime before getting outscored 14-7 in the third quarter. Northwestern was able to take back its lead 31-28 thanks to a 4-yard rushing score from running back Evan Hull.
This win over Nebraska sheds Northwestern’s 56-7 loss in Lincoln last season. We’ll see what the rest of the season has in store for the Wildcats.
