Pat Fitzgerald lands gig as hoops analyst for radio call of Northwestern-Michigan game next week
Northwestern fans who don’t typically turn on the radio for basketball games may have an extra incentive to do so next week.
Current Northwestern radio analyst Joey Meyer is recovering from hip surgery and will not be available to call the Wildcats’ Feb. 12 home game against Michigan. That meant that the radio crew was looking for someone to fill in as an analyst.
Head football coach Pat Fitzgerald has landed the gig.
After a few exchanges on Twitter between Fitzgerald and play-play voice Dave Eanet, the head football coach has been approved to be on the mic for next week’s B1G battle. It should be a pretty entertaining game for listeners.
Below are some of the exchanges on Twitter that landed Fitzgerald the opportunity:

There’s nobody with more passion for the Cats than @coachfitz51. Really looking forward to watching a game with him…and hearing his take. I know he’s already prepping for the assignment. Tune in next Wednesday! #B1GCats https://t.co/P2UipH7VKg

Fitzgerald isn’t just a great football coach, he’s been an excellent supporter of Northwestern athletics. It should be a lot of fun.
The Wildcats travel to Rutgers on Sunday before returning home to face Michigan.
