What Pat Fitzgerald said after Northwestern's loss to Duke
This year’s result proved to be just like last year’s.
Northwestern was favored to beat Duke on Saturday at home and wasn’t able to do what Vegas thought it should. The Wildcats lost to the Blue Devils 21-7 in what proved to be a disappointing performance by the offense.
Quarterback Clayton Thorson threw for just 198 yards, zero TD and 1 INT, while T. J. Green, the Wildcats’ other QB, completed just 9-of-18 passes for 84 yards and a pick as well. The loss for Northwestern gives the team a 1-1 record after its season opening win over Purdue.
After the game, Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald spoke with the media:
Fitz: "We had ample opportunities on offense as we crossed midfield and weren't able to put scores on the board."

"We've got to protect and give our receivers that extra nanosecond. We've got to protect."
