Former Northwestern offensive coordinator Mick McCall has landed on his feet. The longtime operator of the Wildcats’ offense is headed to Ames, Iowa.

FootballScoop has reported that McCall is set to be named the next running backs coach at Iowa State on Matt Campbell’s staff. McCall and Campbell worked together at Bowling Green in the 2000s.

McCall was a member of Pat Fitzgerald’s Northwestern staff for 12 seasons, serving as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator from 2008-19. The two parties parted ways following the season, after the Wildcats produced one of the worst offensive seasons in college football. Northwestern ended the season 3-9.

McCall was on staff for some of the highest points in Fitzgerald’s run as head coach. In 2018, Northwestern claimed a B1G West title and competed in the B1G Championship Game. The Wildcats also enjoyed three 10-win seasons with McCall running the offense.

Iowa State finished the 2019 season with a 7-6 record, but lost to No. 15 Notre Dame in the Camping World Bowl 33-9.

Campbell will be entering his fifth season with the Cyclones.
