The argument can certainly be made that the Big Ten is the smartest Power 5 conference in the NCAA.

The Ivy League is not a part of the Power 5. We saved ourselves there.

That being said, Northwestern may be the cream of the crop in the B1G when it comes to intelligence. You have to be beyond smart to be a Wildcat, which makes their winning ways in football that much more impressive.

For a 2020 Northwestern commit, his academic prowess and success almost led to him being deemed ineligible for his upcoming senior season in high school. Why? How?

Abdur-Rahmaan Yaseen committed to Northwestern in December of last year for the Class of 2020. What is a little bit different about Yaseen is that he had been home-schooled up until his freshman year of college. He reportedly had earned too many class credits and should have been initially deemed a sophomore once entering high school, not a freshman.

At least, that was the thought.

An appeal was made regarding the matter and it got denied. However, another appeal was made of the denial and that was successful according to Yaseen’s father on Thursday.

“It went through the process, I guess,” the dad told mlive.com. “They took (an appeal) up again … I don’t know how, I don’t exactly know the inner workings of it but we’re definitely appreciative and grateful.”

Throughout the entire process, Northwestern has stuck with Yaseen and his commitment. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound wide receiver prospect is seen as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports’ Composite rankings and is the No. 11-ranked player from the state of Michigan.

Yaseen, from Walled Lake, Mich., has scholarship offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Indiana, Louisville, Nebraska, Purdue, Kentucky, Maryland, Rutgers and others.
