Trio of Wildcat defenders shine, hit single-game mark for first time since 2018 in win over Iowa
Northwestern continued to impress on Saturday as the Wildcats went into Iowa City and defeated Iowa in a come-from-behind win at Kinnick Stadium.
The biggest story of the win was Northwestern erasing a 17-point deficit. But when talking about 2020 and a Pat Fitzgerald-coached team, it’s hard to miss the defense. Especially when multiple defenders are getting involved and making significant contributions.
On Saturday, Paddy Fisher, Blake Gallagher, and Chris Bergin each finished with at least 11 tackles. Bergin led the way with 12.
It’s the first time since 2018 that three Wildcats have had double-digit tackles in a game.

Based on Fitzgerald’s playing and coaching history, it doesn’t seem surprising that he has productive, game-changing linebackers. That appears to be the case so far in 2020.
At this point, Northwestern has a lot to say about how the Big Ten West is decided. That will be especially true when the Wildcats take on Wisconsin later this month.
