If Northwestern wants to knock off No. 4 Notre Dame, it’s going to need some big-time plays. The Wildcats got one early on Saturday night.

Driving in Fighting Irish territory, Northwestern receiver Bennett Skowronek made a spectacular one-handed catch to keep a drive going, eventually setting up a Wildcats touchdown. The pass was just out of reach, but the receiver was able to get just enough of the ball to haul it in.

It was one of the better catches on Saturday.

Northwestern would go on to score a few plays later on a Clayton Thorson sneak. The touchdown tied the game at 7-7 in the first half.

Skowronek has been a great option in the passing game for Northwestern this season. He’s the team’s second-leading receiver, behind only Flynn Nagel. In eight games, he’s caught 33 passes for 410 yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcats have defeated the Irish in the last two meetings, 1995 and 2014. Northwestern is hoping to spoil Notre Dame’s College Football Playoff chances.
