Moments ago, Northwestern (3-3, 3-1 Big Ten) won its second consecutive game with a remarkable come-from-behind performance against Nebraska (0-6, 0-4).

Down 31-24 with 1:59 remaining in the fourth quarter and backed up on its own 1-yard line, Wildcats senior quarterback Clayton Thorson stepped up to the plate and went 6-for-7 with 89 yards including a five-yard touchdown pass to J.J. Jefferson to send the game into overtime before ultimately holding off the struggling Cornhuskers, 34-31.

It just so happened that the 99-yard, game-tying touchdown drive was the longest in Northwestern football history:

Today’s homecoming victory marks Northwestern’s 10th win in its last 11 conference games — its best stretch since winning 15 of 16 with back-to-back B1G championships in 1995-96. With a Week 9 home matchup with Wisconsin looming, the ‘Cats still control their destiny in the West, while Nebraska drops to 0-6 for the first time in program history.
