One week after Northwestern secured a spot in the B1G Championship Game, the Wildcats made a trip up to Minnesota for its final road game of the year. But, for some unknown reason, Pat Fitzgerald’s bunch was tabbed as a two-point underdog to the Gophers.

The Northwestern head coach was not happy with that status.

“It was insulting,” Fitzgerald said following the Wildcats’ 24-14 win over Minnesota. “We come up here as underdogs? Are you kidding me? I mean, that’s a joke. To me that was a joke. It, quite frankly, pissed me off.”

Northwestern was 6-4 entering the season and had a 6-1 record in B1G play. The Gophers were 5-5 with a 2-5 in conference games.

You can understand why Fitzgerald might be a little upset with Minnesota being picked as the favorite. You can clearly hear his frustration in the post-game interview.

Northwestern is now 7-4 on the season with a 7-1 record in the B1G.

Next week, the Wildcats will take on Illinois (4-7). It’s highly unlikely they’ll be underdogs in the rivalry game.
