Ohio State will wait until game-time to make a decision on the status of 2 key wide receivers.

Receivers Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Julian Fleming will be game-time decisions for the Buckeyes in the Week 2 matchup against Arkansas State. In the season opener against Notre Dame, the 2 receivers either did not play or saw very limited playing time.

ESPN college football reporter Adam Rittenberg reported that the 2 receivers were game-time decisions. He also mentioned that he would be surprised to see Smith-Njigba out there against the Red Wolves. Ohio State might be ready to play without either of the 2 receivers. Smith-Njigba left during the Notre Dame game and did not return.

Ohio State’s receivers played well without Smith-Njigba and Fleming. Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr. were the 2 leading receivers in Week 1 for the Buckeyes and will likely see key targets throughout Saturday’s game.

Last week, Smith-Njigba had 2 catches for 3 yards. In 2021, Smith-Njigba had 95 catches, 1,606 receiving yards, and 9 touchdowns. He will be a focal point in Ohio State’s offense when he is healthy. For Fleming, he caught 12 passes for 86 yards in 2021. Fleming’s presence will help Ohio State’s depth at the wide receiver position.

The Buckeyes will host Arkansas State at 12 p.m. ET.
