247 Sports analyst Josh Pate – also known as “Late Kick Josh” – released his Week 1 reaction show coming out of all the action to start the college football season. One team he remains unworried about is Ohio State.

Despite the sluggish offensive showing against Notre Dame, it is the strong defense that the Buckeyes displayed that has Pate optimistic heading forward:

“This is what real football looks like,” said Pate referring to the growing pains of losing elite players to the NFL. “Last year, they had all the offense in the world and kept waiting on the defense.

“Let me tell you where I’m totally comfortable with Ohio State: I’m totally comfortable with them playing top-notch defense and waiting on the offense to come around… I’ll be happy to wait for the offense if I know I got the defense at Ohio State. Come early November, the same crowd writing them off is going to be all the way back in.”

Considering the early loss of Jaxon Smith-Njigba and the absence of Julian Fleming, there is still more than enough reason to be optimistic for the Buckeyes moving forward. We’ll see how Ryan Day gets that group into shape moving forward and in Week 2.
