Ohio State’s 2022 recruiting class took a hit on the first day of the Early Signing Period.

The Buckeyes suffered from an unexpected flip on Wednesday morning, with 4-star cornerback Terrance Brooks committing to Texas. He had given his verbal pledge to Ohio State back in June.

A native of Little Elm, Texas, Brooks is listed as the No. 59 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class and ranks No. 8 at the cornerback position, per 247Sports composite rankings. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound defensive back held 40 offers during the recruiting process.

From 247Sports recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks:

Owns the requisite height with a strong, athletic build. Elite length with an enormous wingspan in the plus-9 range relative to height. Strong football pedigree. Hyper-aware in coverage, whether manning up or playing zone. Consistently turns and locates the ball. Long levers disrupt routes and shrink catch windows. Shows above-average ball skills with functional athleticism to make something happen after an INT. Solid tackler who generates pop in close quarters with relatively little gather and uncoil.

It’s a huge addition for Steve Sarkisian and his staff, which has done well for his first full recruiting cycle in Austin. In a talent-filled state like Texas, it’s critical for the Longhorns to keep some of the best players at home.

Entering the day, Ohio State owned the B1G’s top-ranked recruiting class, but with so much happening during the Early Signing Period, it’ll be interesting to see if the Buckeyes are still sitting in the catbird seat by the end of the week.
