Alabama passes Ohio State for most weeks at No. 1 in AP poll
Alabama owns another crown in college football.
No, the College Football Playoff committee didn’t forego the remainder of the 2018 season and ship the trophy to Tuscaloosa with Nick Saban’s name on the envelope. This crown is more of an unofficial thing, but it’s still a college football thing.
After maintaining its status as college football’s No. 1 team in the latest Associated Press poll, Alabama owns the record for most weeks ranked in the No. 1 spot, passing Ohio State for the honor.
The Crimson Tide have now sat atop the college football rankings for a record-setting 106 times since the poll began ranking teams in 1936. A good chunk of those 106 weeks at No. 1 have been with Nick Saban leading the charge.
Saban’s teams have been ranked No. 1 nationally 75 times, which would rank sixth all-time by itself, according to ESPN.
Ohio State is currently ranked No. 4 in the most recent AP poll, which was released on Sunday.
