Baker Mayfield plays for the Cleveland Browns now.

He’s essentially beloved in the state of Ohio — especially since he just helped lead the Browns to their first victory in 635 days Thursday night against the New York Jets. Baker mania is here.

Prior to his time with the Browns, however, the former No. 1 overall pick played his college ball at Oklahoma. Ohio State fans know exactly what happened in Week 2 of the 2017 season.

Mayfield went on to defeat the Buckeyes as a Sooner and after the game, he planted an Oklahoma flag at midfield in Ohio Stadium. It was disrespectful, obviously.

However, Buckeye-Browns fans can probably forgive Mayfield now that the Browns have actually won a game.

Following Mayfield’s first career win as a pro, his former head coach at Oklahoma — Lincoln Riley — sent out a tweet somewhat making fun of Ohio State.

Mayfield then responded when asked by ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt about Riley’s comment after the Browns-Jets game:

“He always keeps one joke in the chamber,” Mayfield said. “You know, he’s always got a one-liner up with the best of ‘em, and he saved it for now.”

The former Sooner decided to not add fuel to the fire. Smart move by Mayfield, considering he could be in Cleveland for quite some time.
