J.T. Barrett has already been named a captain for the 2016 season.

Now, the Ohio State quarterback has already been named an early Heisman Trophy favorite.

According to Bovada, Barrett is tied for fourth with Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield among the early Heisman favorites for 2016.

Among the top-five early favorites, Barrett is the only one who didn’t finish in the top six of the 2015 Heisman voting.

Barrett did finish fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting as a redshirt freshman in 2014 despite the fact that he suffered a season-ending ankle injury against Michigan.

It’s no surprise to see that Barrett, who will enter the offseason as a starter for the first time, is generating plenty of preseason hype. He’ll be the focal point of an offense that only returns three starters.

The hype for Barrett and the Buckeyes won’t be anywhere near what it was entering 2015 because of the fact that nine underclassmen declared for the NFL draft.

But for Barrett, expectations will still be sky high.
