The first black stripe of Ohio State fall camp has been removed!

Freshman defensive back Jaylen McClain triggered the first “black stripe alert” of August on Wednesday.

McClain’s New Jersey roots are spotlighted in the clip posted to social media announcing the removal of his black stripe.

Out of Seton Hall Prep, McClain was rated 4-stars, the No. 5 player in the state of New Jersey, No. 36 safety and No. 373 prospect overall in the Class of 2024 on the 247Sports Composite.

McClain drew interest from coast to coast. He picked up scholarship offers from 34 programs, including Georgia, LSU, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Rutgers, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCLA and Wisconsin.

McClain used his official visits at three programs: Ohio State, USC and Notre Dame. He committed to the Buckeyes on June 12, 2023, days after his OSU campus visit. McClain maintained his verbal commitment to Ryan Day’s program and signed with Ohio State on Dec. 20.

A January early enrollee, McClain is listed on the 2024 roster at 6-feet and 192 pounds.

OSU removed black stripes from nine players, including Jeremiah Smith, Will Howard, Caleb Downs, Quinshon Judkins and Julian Sayin, during spring practice.

Ohio State kicks off the 2024 season on Aug. 31 when the Buckeyes host Akron.
