One of the most highly touted tight ends in the class of 2023 has announced his commitment to play at Ohio State.

Ty Lockwood, rated as the eighth-best tight end, and 142nd best player in his class according to 247Sports, had previously whittled down the teams on his radar to Ohio State, Penn State, Florida State and South Carolina. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound high school junior made the announcement over his Twitter account on Thursday.

Lockwood becomes the first player in the 2023 class to commit to the Buckeyes.

After camping with Ohio State in June, Lockwood later attended the Buckeye Bash & BBQ in late July, and had told sources he was seeking a brotherhood and a strong academic-based school when making his choice.

The Buckeyes made an offer to Lockwood back in February. As a sophomore at Independence High School (TN), he averaged 14.1 yards per catch. He also had 43 receptions covering 606 yards and three touchdowns.
