Brian Hartline has interviewed for the head coaching position at West Virginia, according to a report.

That news was shared by 247Sports’ Chris Anderson on Wednesday afternoon.

Hartline is regarded as one of the top recruiters and position coaches in all of college football. He also served as Ohio State’s play-caller in 2023, so he has some experience in that realm as well.

Hartline has largely served as Ohio State’s wide receivers coach since returning to his alma mater back in 2018. During that time, he’s helped recruit and develop future stars such as Garrett Wilson, Jaxson Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Jeremiah Smith, amongst plenty others.

If Hartline leaves, it would be a tremendous loss for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes in 2025 and beyond. It’s unclear at this time if Hartline would remain with Ohio State through the end of its postseason run before taking over in Morgantown, should he land the job.

Hartline is not the only Big Ten assistant coach to be linked to the WVU vacancy. Penn State offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki has also interviewed for the job, per multiple reports.

There is no timetable for West Virginia to announce an official hire.
