Brian Hartline to be Ohio State's play-caller in 2025, per report
Brian Hartline has been a big part of Ohio State football over the years, both as a wide receiver as well as a coach. He was the offensive coordinator in 2023, but Ryan Day called the plays. Last season, he was a co-offensive coordinator, but Chip Kelly was the one calling the plays.
In 2025, Hartline will not only be the offensive coordinator for the Buckeyes, but according to a report, he will also be the play-caller.
Hartline is expected to handle offensive play-calling duties for the Buckeyes, according to a source. Head coach Ryan Day handed over play-calling to Kelly last season and will continue with that approach. https://t.co/GBSFbZYHzi

Hartline has been the wide receiver’s coach at Ohio State since 2018, and has helped produce and develop some of the best wide receivers in the country. A few of those guys include Marvin Harrison Jr., Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and current superstar Jeremiah Smith to name a few.
After winning the championship against Notre Dame early in 2025, the Buckeyes are having to replace many important pieces from their staff. Jim Knowles was the defensive coordinator for the Buckeyes, but he is now the DC at Penn State. Last year’s co-offensive coordinator Kelly, took a job with the Las Vegas Raiders as the new OC for new coach Pete Carroll.
Hartline has been a valuable part of the Buckeyes program over the past few years, and should be able to transition smoothly to his new role
