Brian Jones really enjoyed the showdown between Ohio State and Notre Dame in Week 4.

Jones was particularly amazed by the performance of Ohio State’s defense during the game. Notre Dame got close to scoring at times, but the defense slammed the door shut without allowing a point.

“Lou Holtz really had Ryan Day pissed off. He charged out there and said, ‘Who you calling soft baby?’ They ceased that Notre Dame streak of 30+ scoring games. I think it was a 10-game streak of scoring at least 30 points. They had a couple of early drives where they get down in scoring position and they left without a point. Hats off to Jim Knowles and that Buckeyes defense. Ryan Day got the last laugh. That’ll teach you Lou Holtz in your rocking chair or whatever you’re in, you leave the Buckeyes alone.”

Ohio State currently has the third-best defense in the B1G when it comes to yards allowed. The Buckeyes are allowing 255.5 total yards each game and 8.5 points per game.

Saturday’s action was the most points they’ve allowed so far this season at 14. The defense enters into the bye week and must be feeling pretty good about itself.

Ohio State faces next Maryland on Oct. 7.
