There was one coach that looked at the defending national champions last night and decided they weren’t the best team in college football.

But the other 63 were in agreement.

The Buckeyes retained their No. 1 spot in the Coaches Poll after Monday night’s 42-24 second-half drubbing of Virginia Tech in the season opener. Ohio State made history as the first team to ever receive a unanimous Associated Press preseason No. 1 ranking.

Ohio State rushed for nearly 10 yards per carry and held the Hokies to one second-half touchdown after trailing at the break. The Buckeyes got three total touchdowns from newly named starter Cardale Jones, two from converted quarterback Braxton Miller and one 80-yard score from Ezekiel Elliott.

The Buckeyes were also without the likes of preseason All-American Joey Bosa, Jalin Marshall, Corey Smith and Dontre Wilson because of a one-game suspension.

They’ll be back in Week 2 for the home opener against Hawaii.
