Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Bryant decided to take a shot at former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones on Twitter this week, but he selected the wrong Buckeye to pick a bone with.

This week, Bryant used Jones’ signing with the XFL’s D.C. Defenders as an attempt to sling mud on the quarterback’s decision to return to Ohio State for another season rather than leave for the NFL after leading the Buckeyes to a national title. He didn’t hold back in his message.

“Cardale Jones is now in the XFL…He would been a top 10 pick in the 2015 NFL draft…But instead he went back to Ohio State then fell to the 4th round,” Bryant tweeted. “D1 athletes don’t let them coaches lie to you about the importance of a college degree…If you get a 1st round grade…LEAVE.”

Jones saw the tweet and clapped back at Bryant, sending a much more positive message about the situation.

“I went back to OSU to finish school. Something I worked as hard on as my football career. I’m my own man and think for myself. Going back benefited me & my family LONG term,” Jones responded. “Educate yourself on the situation before commenting and spreading the wrong message.”

Most of the responses to Jones’ tweet, as you can imagine, were very positive.

Ohio State enjoyed a successful year in 2015 with Jones returning. The Buckeyes finished the year 12-1 and defeated Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

Jones was one of eight XFL quarterbacks assigned to a team this week, and will be headed to the D.C. Defenders for the start of the season. That means two former Buckeye quarterbacks are in the Washington area, with Dwayne Haskins currently a member of the Redskins.
