Cardale Jones recalls viral tweet to rib Stetson Bennett over college academics
Cardale Jones knows all about going viral for academics. This weekend, the Ohio State great referenced his legendary “school” tweet to playfully troll former Georgia QB Stetson Bennett.
Over the weekend, a tweet about Bennett not having a degree after being a college student-athlete from 2017-to-2022 went viral. Jones could not resist chiming in.
Buddy definitely wasn’t playing school! https://t.co/uuNoKDxkOf

On Oct. 5, 2012, Jones famously tweeted, “Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS.” The viral tweet was later deleted.
Though Jones questioned the “student” part of being a student-athlete at the time, he would eventually graduate from Ohio State in 2017. He even referenced the tweet on his grad cap.
Remember that time he said “we ain’t come here to play school?”

There isn’t much public information available on Bennett’s academic situation. He walked onto the Georgia football team in 2017 and returned to UGA on scholarship in 2019 after a stop in JUCO. After guiding the Bulldogs to back-to-back national championships, he was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in Round 4 of the 2023 NFL Draft.
