Carnell Tate has made quite the impression on Ohio State HC Ryan Day so far. Day spoke about what he’s liked seeing from the former 5-star WR at spring practice in an interview on Saturday.

One of the first things that impressed Day about Tate was the maturity the Buckeye wideout has shown. Tate was a former 5-star wideout from the 2023 class per 247 Sports. (The 247 Sports Composite Rankings had Tate as a 4-star prospect and No. 9 WR in the country.)

“There’s a lot to be impressed with Carnell. But I think the first thing is just his maturity since he’s been here. Right from the jump, we do meetings where we throw up everybody in the building, go through each guy, and to a person, just the feedback we’re getting from academics, from nutritionists, from strength and conditioning, position coaches, player development, everyone has such great things to say about Carnell off the field.”

Tate is joining an already impressive group of receivers in Columbus. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is no longer on the team after declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft, but the likes of Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka will be back for 2023.

Day continued praising Tate, stating that the Ohio State WR has been making a lot of plays.

“On the field, dude’s making a lot of plays,” Day continued on Tate. “Has to pick up a lot of offense for a young player. He’s got a pretty mature route tree, does a nice job at the line of scrimmage, catches the ball strong, makes plays. All really encouraging signs… If he keeps stacking these days, he’s gonna get better. He’s here to play.”

It’s looking like Tate might fit in well with the Buckeyes. Here’s the full clip of the interview:
