CFB Playoff executive director Bill Hancock discusses Ohio State’s resume, No. 1 ranking

It may have been a shock to some, but Ohio State is back in the No. 1 spot on the College Football Playoff Rankings.
Over the weekend, the Buckeyes secured a crucial win over Penn State. That gave Ryan Day’s squad a top-10 victory and guaranteed a trip to Indianapolis for the B1G Championship Game. Meanwhile, LSU beat Arkansas by a score of 56-20.
With LSU at No. 1 entering the weekend, it did not seem a change was likely. However, the CFP Committee bumped Ohio State back into the pole position with one week to go in the regular season.

On Wednesday, CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock joined The Paul Finebaum Show to discuss Tuesday’s rankings. Among the first things to be discussed was the change at No. 1.
Hancock cited Ohio State’s boosted resume with the win over Penn State, along with the Buckeyes being a very balanced team:
“Ohio State and LSU as you know well are two excellent football teams. I think the committee just felt like Ohio State was the more complete team on both sides of the ball,” said Hancock. “Everyone needs to remember that every team’s resume changes every week, and Ohio State’s resume was improved with that win over Penn State, so the Committee just felt Ohio State belonged at No. 1.”
Paul Finebaum went on to ask if it was any one thing in particular that the Committee saw from Ohio State, or was it simply the win over Penn State that resulted in the jump over LSU?
“Just the whole resume and how much it did improve with the victory over Penn State, and I think the Committee feels like Ohio State’s defense maybe a little stronger to this point,” explained Hancock.
Being No. 1 is good. Now, Ohio State has a chance to defend that ranking and make another statement on the road against No. 13 Michigan in The Game. Saturday’s kickoff is set for 12 pm EST on FOX.
