Ohio State checked in at No. 2 on the latest edition of the College Football Playoff Rankings. The Buckeyes trail only defending national champion Georgia in the rankings and are just ahead of Michigan and TCU among the group of remaining undefeated teams.

While the ranking is just fine, the question of how Ohio State will look against stiffer competition remains. That is a particularly tricky question considering the current injury concerns of the Buckeyes.

In the Week 11 game against Indiana, TreVeyon Henderson and Chip Trayanum were held out of the backfield. Along with the season-ending injuries to Evan Pryor and TC Caffey, that left the Buckeyes with Miyan Williams and true freshman Dallan Hayden as the RBs available in the game.

That changed when Williams went down in the first half and did not return with an injury. Xavier Johnson — mostly used as a wide receiver this season — saw some emergency snaps as a result.

Following Tuesday’s rankings reveal, Boo Corrigan was asked what impact those injuries have on the committee’s perception of a team. While Corrigan said the committee does not forecast potential results, the group absolutely takes into account certain injuries when evaluating an existing performance.

“When we are evaluating the games and the teams and taking notice of a player who does leave the game early and noting that during the course of the game as we’re doing a recap of each team, during that week, from a projection standpoint, as you know, we don’t project and look ahead,” said Corrigan. “But certainly during the game and having a greater understanding of how the team flows, we want to make sure we have all the information.”

So far, the injuries have not hindered the Buckeyes with an undefeated record and 56 points scored against Indiana. Hopefully, things continue to go off without a hitch and the team gets healthier in Week 12.
