It’s Tuesday, Dec. 10. The Heisman Trophy hasn’t been decided yet. That will come on Saturday, Dec. 14. Then, we’ll know who will be hoisting the most prestigious individual award out there.
But, we do know who the four finalists are. And, with that, Ohio State’s Chase Young is on the list. He’ll be in New York with three quarterbacks (go figure). So, the worst that Young can finish is fourth overall.
With that in mind, Young is only the fifth defensive lineman to ever finish in the top four of Heisman voting:
Chase Young becomes just the 5th defensive lineman to finish in the @HeismanTrophy Top 4, in last 50 years:
•Rich Glover, Nebraska (‘72, 3rd)
•Hugh Green, Pitt (‘80, 2nd)
•Steve Emtman, UW (‘91, 3rd)
•Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska (‘09, 4th)
•Chase Young, Ohio State (‘19, ???) pic.twitter.com/0cuJG7Kwby— Pick Six Previews (@PickSixPreviews) December 10, 2019

Depending on how high Young finishes, he could become the highest vote-receiver in Heisman history among defensive linemen. Only Pittsburgh’s Hugh Green took second, and if you look at Vegas odds for who is going to win the trophy this year, all signs point to LSU’s Joe Burrow.
Could Young at least finish in second? That would be incredibly impressive, especially considering that he missed two games this season.
