Chase Young likes to tease Justin Fields about being No. 2 on depth chart had Joe Burrow stayed in Columbus
Joe Burrow and Chase Young were teammates in 2017 before Burrow transferred, and Young likes to use Burrow as a way to tease current teammate Justin Fields.
Following the 2017 season, Burrow left the Buckeyes and transferred to LSU. Burrow was solid as a starter in 2018 before breaking out into the Heisman front runner in 2019.
By all accounts, Burrow was well-respected around the program and by his Buckeye teammates. He simply made the best decision available for him in carving out a role at LSU after Dwayne Haskins succeeded J.T. Barrett as the starter in Columbus.
It also worked out alright for Ohio State by landing transfer QB Justin Fields in the offseason. He has put up strong numbers in his first year with the Buckeyes, but Young indicated Wednesday that he likes to mess with his QB from time-to-time.

What is the angle Young takes? Sometimes, he kids Fields by telling him he would be the backup had Burrow stayed in Columbus.
Wilson Alexander with The Advocate shared the video of Young’s comments:
Ohio State defensive end Chase Young and quarterback Justin Fields enjoy teasing each other, and the jokes sometimes include LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, a former Buckeye.
“If Joe was here,” Young has said, “you would not be starting right now.”

Obviously, this is all good-natured jokes between teammates. It’s also okay to acknowledge the out of this world season Burrow has put up in Baton Rouge. Things have worked out very well for all parties involved.
