Chip Kelly is pleased with how Will Howard has developed as Ohio State’s starting quarterback. However, the offensive coordinator wants to see development in one key area.

Asked about Howard’s development on Tuesday, Kelly said he would like to see Howard complete every pass he throws. Unrealistic as it might be, Kelly joked that Jared Goff achieved that feat on Monday Night Football.

Goff was truly masterful with a perfect passing performance in a big win for the Detroit Lions, so maybe it’s possible Howard can achieve that level.

“Complete every pass. I mean, that would be one (area). Jared Goff did it last night, right? He went 18-for-18,” said Kelly. “And then Amon Ra St. Brown was 1-for-1 so they were 19-for-19 as a team.”

While it’s lofty goal, Kelly will have to be satisfied with Howard posted a career-high 68.6% completion percentage through 4 games with the Buckeyes. He is also averaging a career-best 9.9 yards per passing attempt to go with 8 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

A reporter followed up with a question about whether or not Howard locks onto certain receivers too much, but Kelly did not seem bothered by it. The OC simply wants continued growth on a weekly basis, something that has been achieved so far.

“I think Will’s doing a good job. I think there’s a growth always with all of that… Every QB can improve, every coach can improve, every player can improve,” said Kelly. “This is a growth game and how you in improve. I hope in game 8 we’re not playing how we were in game 4.”
