Chip Kelly is reportedly leaving Ohio State after 1 season. According to Adam Schefter and Pete Thamel, Kelly is going to back to the NFL.

Kelly, who has experience as an NFL head coach, is taking the offensive coordinator position with the Las Vegas Raiders, per ESPN’s college football and NFL insiders.

It was February 2024 when Kelly rocked the college football world leaving his post as head coach of the UCLA Bruins to become Ohio State’s offensive coordinator. With Kelly leading an offense that finished No. 1 in opponent-adjusted efficiency, the Buckeyes won the College Football Playoff National Championship, defeating Notre Dame.

Kelly has NFL familiarity. After posting a 46-7 record and 3 conference titles in 4 seasons at Oregon (2009-12), Kelly left to become the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kelly was with the Eagles for 3 seasons. Philadelphia won the NFC East and reached the playoffs in 2013, Kelly’s first season, going 10-6. He was dismissed before the end of his 3rd season with a 6-9 record. Kelly left Philadelphia with a 26-21 record.

After his Eagles tenure, Kelly took the San Francisco 49ers job. The 49ers fired Kelly after the team went 2-14 in 2016, his only season in San Francisco.

Kelly will work under new Raiders head coach Pete Carroll in Las Vegas.
