Chris Holtmann is reportedly a candidate for the Notre Dame job.

ESPN’s Jeff Borzello said Holtmann, along with Penn State’s Micah Shrewsberry, is a name that has been “buzzing” around the Notre Dame search.

Here’s Borzello’s full analysis on the situation:

Mike Brey announced in mid-January that he planned to step down after 23 years in South Bend. It’s been fairly quiet on the replacement front, although two names that have been buzzing are Ohio State’s Chris Holtmann and Penn State’s Micah Shrewsberry. The buyout for Oklahoma’s Porter Moser is simply too high, while Charleston’s Pat Kelsey doesn’t appear to be in the mix. Other names mentioned include Miami Heat assistant Chris Quinn, Iowa’s Fran McCaffery and Illinois’ Brad Underwood. A potential sleeper is Colgate’s Matt Langel.

Holtmann and the Buckeyes are in the midst of a disaster season. Ohio State is just 11-16 on the year despite entering the 2022-23 campaign with high expectations.

This is Holtmann’s 6th year as the head coach in Columbus. However, this would be the 1st time Ohio State wins fewer than 20 games and just the 2nd time it will miss the NCAA Tournament with him in charge.

Holtmann has an overall record of 118-72 as Ohio State’s head coach.
