CJ Stroud made the long-awaited decision official. The star quarterback for Ohio State and  two-time finalist for the Heisman Trophy is moving on to the 2023 NFL Draft.

A redshirt sophomore, Stroud has two years as a starter for the Buckeyes under his belt. After sitting behind Justin Fields in 2020, Stroud won the QB battle ahead of the 2021 season and never looked back.

“To Buckeye Nation, it’s been a helluva ride,” wrote Stroud. “To the students, alumni, and all of THE Ohio State fans, thank you for welcoming a kid from Cali into the Buckeye family…

“With that said, I am declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft. This ain’t goodbye… Buckeye for life!”

During the 2021 season, Stroud finished with 4,435 passing yards and 44 touchdowns. Both of those marks rank as the second-best single-season marks in Ohio State history. His 2022 season totals of 3,688 yards and 41 touchdowns rank third and tied for third, respectively, in a single season.

Stroud is one of two Buckeye quarterbacks to eclipse 8,000 yards passing in a career. He leaves Columbus second on Ohio State’s all-time list with 8,123 passing yards, trailing just JT Barrett for the program record.

In addition to his career numbers, Stroud holds Ohio State’s single-game record of 573 passing yards, set during the Rose Bowl win over Utah. He also tossed 6 touchdowns in a game 3 times, joining an elite list of Buckeye quarterbacks to throw 6 touchdowns in a game.

While Stroud leaves Columbus without a win in The Game or a B1G Championship, he delivered a performance for the ages in the Peach Bowl loss to Georgia. In terms of his NFL Draft stock, Stroud is widely regarded as one of the top QB prospects for 2023 alongside Alabama’s Bryce Young.
