CJ Stroud was already a Heisman Trophy favorite coming into 2022. After his performance in Week 6, Stroud might be the runaway frontrunner as the calendar turns to the middle of October.

In the road game against Michigan State, Stroud did have an early miscue with a pick-6. It looked like some miscommunication might have played a role, but that score allowed the Spartans to tie things up against the Buckeyes.

Since that interception, Stroud has been on fire and racked up the numbers in East Lansing. He was eventually pulled for good with the game all but wrapped up near the end of the third quarter.

When he finally called it a day, Stroud had 21-of-26 passes for 361 yards and 6 touchdowns. That ties the program’s single-game mark already held by Stroud and 4 other Buckeye QBs.

Oh, to make matters even more impressive, Stroud has played most of the 2022 season without record-setting receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. That has allowed Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka to have breakout years with Harrison posting the 3rd hat trick of his young career in Saturday’s win.

Needless to say, with Stroud’s year off to such a dominant and high-flying start, he should be the name at the top of every Heisman board heading into Ohio State’s Week 7 bye. Here’s a look at the reactions from Stroud’s latest outburst:
