College GameDay crew, Justin Fields pick Indiana-Ohio State showdown
College GameDay is in Columbus for a Week 13 top-5 matchup between Ohio State and Indiana. Indiana is 10-0 for the first time in school history and is included in the featured GameDay matchup for the 2nd time in 2024.
The Buckeyes, meanwhile, are 9-1 with their lone blemish being a loss at Oregon. A loss to Indiana would eliminate the Buckeyes from the B1G Championship Game, while an Indiana loss could damage their chances of making the College Football Playoff.
Since GameDay is in Columbus, former Buckeye great Justin Fields was invited to be the celebrity guest picker. Fields and the rest of the GameDay crew were split on this game, with half picking Indiana and half picking Ohio State.
“The tripped out part is people don’t understand Indiana is going to make changes, too,” said Desmond Howard. “I’m going with the Hoosiers to shock the college football world.”
While Howard chose the Hoosiers, Nick Saban went with the Buckeyes.
“I’m telling you, Ohio State has too much talent,” said the former coach. “I think when they beat Penn State, they found the confidence to win these kinds of games.”
The Buckeyes’ win over Penn State was crucial after losing to Oregon. Now, the team has a chance to add another high-quality conference win in the regular season.
Kirk Herbstreit, an Ohio State graduate, agreed with Saban’s take.
“I’m not saying it’s going to be that bad (Ohio State vs. Michigan State in 2021), but I think it’s going to be pretty convincing. I just think Ohio State’s too good for them (Indiana),” explained Herbstreit.
Pat McAfee and Lee Corso both went with Howard in picking Indiana, while Fields predictably picked his Buckeyes.
“It’s simple, Indiana’s been having a great year… but Ohio State by 50 points,” said Fields.
The much-anticipated matchup kicked off from Ohio Stadium with all the coverage set on FOX.
