There was widespread belief that Ohio State is definitely a national title contender after watching Saturday’s domination in Norman.

That’s why the Buckeyes moved up to No. 2 in the country in both polls. Not surprisingly, they still trail No. 1 Alabama, which picked up an impressive road victory of its own on Saturday at Ole Miss. The Tide picked up 50 of the first-place votes in the Associated Press poll while Ohio State earned four.

But not everybody is sold on Alabama as the consensus No. 1.

ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis dished out his top teams in the country, as he does every Monday. Saturday’s blowout in Norman was enough for him to move Ohio State to No. 1:

Kirk Herbstreit often gets ripped for having Ohio State bias. Some OSU fans actually claim he’s anti-Buckeyes.

For those claiming Davis is also homer, think again. Davis graduated from Alabama.

But, as he often does, Davis gave an unbiased opinion of the top teams.

Does he have a point?

There’s also the argument that Ohio State’s defense went 145 minutes without allowing an offensive touchdown. The Buckeyes are 3-0 with an impressive road win and a 170-37 scoring advantage. Alabama, on the other hand, rolled past USC but struggled in the first half against the likes of Western Kentucky and on the road at Ole Miss.

Whatever the case, Alabama and Ohio State are both certainly worthy of being in the top two. Lord knows a rematch between those two in the College Football Playoff would generate some interest.
