Despite Justin Fields’ monster pro day on Tuesday, college football analyst Desmond Howard still says he would take BYU’s Zach Wilson as the No. 2 quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft.
Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, Howard was asked about the second-best quarterback available in this year’s class. While he was quick to acknowledge how talented Fields is, pointing to the QB’s impressive performance during his pro day, the College GameDay analyst still thinks Wilson is the guy behind Trevor Lawrence.
“I like Zach Wilson,” Howard said. “I just love everything that he brings to the team, to the offense. He’s a player who plays with an edge. You can tell he’s out there to prove all the doubters wrong. He can make all the throws. He has great talent. He can run, but he doesn’t want to run.
“He’ll extend any play, looking down the field all the time. Though, you can’t go wrong with Justin Fields after his pro day yesterday. He’s a phenomenal talent, too.”
The debate between Wilson and Fields has been ongoing since the end of the college football season. There’s no question Wilson is a special talent, but it’s somewhat more difficult to gauge his ability considering the level of competition BYU played all season.
As the NFL Draft creeps closer, it’s going to be interesting to see which NFL team eyes a quarterback and whether they think Wilson or Fields is the more talented player.
