Desmond Howard has a habit of trying to make things about Michigan. Sometimes it goes well… sometimes not.

But he was back at it again on Saturday during Ohio State’s spring game. Buckeye legend and two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin took a stretch handoff from the 25-yard-line and did something he did countless times back in his playing days: found the endzone.

After Griffin scored, the ball was returned to him on the sideline and he flashed the signature Heisman pose.

Howard took the opportunity to insert Michigan into the conversation: “Camera guy gave Arch the ball and said, ‘Do that thing the Michigan player did.’

Michigan has claimed the award 3 times in program history.

Ohio State is in a 4-way tie for the most Heisman winners in college football history with 7. Griffin is the only player to ever win the award twice — doing so in back-to-back seasons in 1974 and 1975.

The Wolverines won the award twice in the 90s, but have just 4 finishes inside the Heisman voting’s top 5 since 2000. Ohio State has 8 such finishes, with Troy Smith winning the trophy by a massive margin in 2006.

With both teams being slotted in ESPN’s way-too-early preseason top 5 back in January, this upcoming season’s matchup should once again be one of the best games on the college football calendar. Michigan has won each of the last 2 meetings (after 8 straight losses in the series), and to the victor goes the right to talk.
