On a day where Ohio State has struggled on offense, the Buckeyes squandered a big play by star running back Trey Sermon, points that they may regret not putting on the scoreboard.

In a tight Big Ten Championship Game, Sermon’s impressive run is the type of play that Ohio State needed to capitalize on. If Ohio State loses, they are likely out of the College Football Playoff.

Down 10-6 with 8:51 left in the third quarter, Sermon blew through a big hole for a 65-yard run down to the Northwestern 28-yard line. The big play went for naught as Charlie Kuhbander missed a 46-yard field goal attempt.

Northwestern’s defense finally broke on Ohio State’s next possession, allowing a seven-play, 71-yard drive that was capped off by a nine-yard touchdown run by Sermon. The touchdown, Ohio State’s first of the game, put them up 13-10 with 2:41 left in the third quarter.
