Every player entering the NFL Draft believes he’s the best at his position. That’s the kind of confidence it takes to excel on the field. So when Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins call himself the top quarterback this year, it really isn’t that surprising.
Haskins recently appeared on First Things First to talk about the upcoming draft and to explain why he believes he’s the No. 1 quarterback of the 2019 class. He makes a pretty strong argument for himself.
“I play quarterback at a very elite level from the aspect of accuracy, arm strength, delivering the ball from all aspects of the field — whether it’s short, intermediate, deep,” Haskins said. “Presence, leadership. Everything that you need from a quarterback, I feel I bring at a high level.”
Though he started only one season at Ohio State, Haskins certainly performed at an elite level. He was the NCAA’s leader in passing yards and touchdown passes while leading the Buckeyes to a 13-1 record and a B1G title.
As good as he was in Columbus, Haskins said he’s only going to improve.
“My best ball is in front of me,” Haskins said. “I’m only 21, turning 22 next month, and I feel like my potential is very high, very limitless.
“I feel really high on myself. I feel like I’m the best quarterback in this class.”
Haskins has the potential to be the first B1G quarterback taken in the first round since Penn State’s Kerry Collins in 1995. He’s expected to be one of the first two quarterbacks selected on Thursday night, along with Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray.
