Dwayne Haskins will be the Week 1 starter for the Washington Football Team. The announcement was official on Wednesday.

Haskins starting opening weekend in the NFL isn’t much of a surprise, as he has been working primarily with the starters during the offseason, per ESPN. However, with the franchise hiring a new coach in Ron Rivera, the starting job was considering to be up for grabs in Washington.

Now, the offense will be Haskins’ to run as a second-year player in the league.

Last season, Haskins played in nine games for Washington and threw for 1,356 yards with 7 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He completed 58.6 percent of his passes as the team finished with a 3-13 record.

Haskins was a first-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, picked No. 15 overall by Washington. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist following the 2018 season after an outstanding campaign at Ohio State.
