Eddie Georgie has emerged as a top target for Bowling Green in its head coaching search, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Saturday.

A final decision on the head coach is expected very soon, and George, who has spent the past 4 seasons as the head coach at Tennessee State, was 1 of 3 finalists interviewed on Friday, according to Thamel’s reporting.

The 51-year-old George, who had a standout career at Ohio State, would be getting his first taste of the FBS coaching ranks if he gets the job. Tennessee State was George’s first college coaching job, and the former Tennessee Titans star running back has thrived in his first coaching shot.

George led Tennessee State to a career-best 9-4 record in a season that was capped by a Big South-Ohio Valley Conference co-championship and an appearance in the FCS playoffs in 2024. Under George’s direction, Tennessee State has increased its win total each season since 2022.

George is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, rushing for 3,768 yards and 44 touchdowns with the Buckeyes during his stellar career in Columbus from 1992-95.

Now, according to reports, George is on the verge of getting his first crack at an FBS coaching job with Bowling Green, which is in the Mid-American Conference.

Ohio State is currently scheduled to host Bowling Green in 2027.
