Friday was not a great day for Ohio State hoops, and images shared by star forward E.J. Liddell cast an even darker shadow on what transpired to open the NCAA Tournament.

Taking on 15-seed Oral Roberts, the Buckeyes quickly found themselves in a tight contest all game long. That included facing a three-point deficit at halftime as the Golden Eagles showed up ready to play.

Despite a huge double-double from Liddell and 18 points from Duane Washington Jr., Ohio State could never contain Kevin Obanor and Max Abmas of Oral Roberts. The duo combined for 59 points in the 75-72 upset of 2-seed Ohio State.

While Liddell scored a team-high 23 points with 14 rebounds and five assists, he was targeted on social media with hateful comments. Liddell shared screenshots of multiple messages he received after the game that included physical threats and relentless vulgarity.

While Friday’s game did not turn out how Liddell or Ohio State were hoping, this is a disgusting response for any person. According to a report by Myron Medcalf with ESPN, the Ohio State police is now involved in an investigation into the threats directed at Liddell.
