Emeka Egbuka breaks Ohio State career receptions record vs. Notre Dame
Emeka Egbuka has more catches than any player in the history of Ohio State football.
During the first quarter of Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship game against Notre Dame, Egbuka crossed the 200-catch milestone for his career. In the second quarter, Egbuka brought in his 202nd career reception to officially pass KJ Hill (2016-19) for the most by a Buckeye in program history.

It’s a remarkable achievement for the Washington native.
A 5-star recruit in the 2021 class, Egbuka joined a loaded Ohio State wideout room and has always had to share the spotlight. He played with Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Garrett Wilson, and Chris Olave as a freshman. He formed a dynamic duo with Marvin Harrison Jr. as a sophomore and a junior. And this season, Egbuka has, at times, taken a back seat to freshman phenom Jeremiah Smith.
But Egbuka entered Monday night’s title fight as the Ohio State leader in receptions. Smith was nearly 300 receiving yards ahead of him, but Egbuka has been ol’ reliable for quarterback Will Howard.
And that’s been his M.O. throughout his entire career.
Egbuka drew 100-plus targets in 2 of his last 3 seasons. For his career, he has caught 72% of his 276 targets. And he has only dropped 12 catchable passes.
Following Ohio State’s second drive of the national championship, Egbuka was sitting 62 yards away from also breaking Michael Jenkins’ program record for career receiving yards (2,898, 2000-03).
