ESPN announced College GameDay’s appearance in Columbus was a smash hit, given the fact the appearance in Columbus, Ohio, drew so much attention.

Ohio State’s Week 13 matchup against the Indiana Hoosiers drew a wealth of attention between two of the top-ranked teams in the nation in a contest that had a wealth of playoff implications. The broadcast drew in a total average of 2.5 million viewers, 3.1 million final hour viewers, a 3.5 million-viewer peak and it was the fourth-most watched regular season episode of all-time.

Those are some big ups.

This is not entirely surprising, though, even given just how impressive these numbers are. It has been forever and a year ago since the Hoosiers could contend at this rate, and for those who were hyped up on the team, the showing was a little underwhelming as it resulted in a 38-15 loss for Indiana, dropping them in the rankings to No. 10 overall.

It will be interesting to watch how things progress moving forward with the final game of the regular season now on the horizon that will help fully shape the final College Football Playoff picture before things really get rolling for the first time ever in the new, expanded 12-team format.
