Ohio State fell just short of a B1G Championship Game appearance and a potential trip to the College Football Playoff. However, the Buckeyes still get the chance to end the year with a marquee game against a quality opponent.
On New Year’s Day, Ryan Day will lead Ohio State into a Rose Bowl showdown vs. No. 11 Utah. The Utes advanced to the Rose Bowl as champions of the Pac-12 while Ohio State received an at-large bid.
It will be Ohio State’s first trip to the Rose Bowl with Ryan Day as head coach. The last trip by the Buckeyes came after the 2018 season, Urban Meyer’s last in Columbus.
Entering this year’s game, Ohio State is riding a 3-game winning streak in the Rose Bowl with wins in 1996, 2009 under Jim Tressel, and 2018 under Meyer. The Buckeyes defeated Washington 28-23 following the 2018 season.
Now, Ohio State enters Pasadena as a favorite to win another prestigious bowl game. According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, the Buckeyes have a 67.6% chance of taking down Utah.
Can the Buckeyes end the year on a high note after some missed expectations? The kickoff is set for 5 pm EST on New Year’s Day.
