Tate Martell has not had a great 2019 season after leaving Columbus for Miami, and the redshirt sophomore will not be in action for the Hurricanes this weekend.

Martell served as the backup to Dwayne Haskins in 2018 and proved to be effective in limited action. He completed 23 of 28 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown without an interception. However, he also was effective on the ground with 128 yards rushing and two more scores.

Following the arrival of transfer QB Justin Fields, Martell transferred out of Ohio State. He landed with the Hurricanes where he has spent time at QB and also at receiver this season. Martell does not have a reception or attempted a pass this year with just two carries for two yards to his credit.

Unfortunately, Martell is also out of action for Week 9. According to Christopher Stock with Inside the U, Martell is taking a medical leave of absence from the program. No other details were given.

Hopefully, whatever is going on is not severe and Martell can return to action quickly.
