A few years ago, Ezekiel Elliott was in a similar situation that Nick Bosa is in now. It wasn’t exactly the same, but the former Ohio State running back was at the center of the college football spotlight after some comments he made following a loss to Michigan State in 2015.
“Honestly, this is my last game in the ‘Shoe,'” a frustrated Elliott said after the game. “I mean, there’s no chance of me coming back next year.”
Elliott officially made his announcement that he was declaring for the NFL draft with one week remaining on the schedule. It was a topic of conversation across the college football landscape for the entire week.
Fast forward three years and Bosa finds himself in a similar situation. The defensive end is recovering from an injury and has decided to drop school and focus on his future in the NFL. And it’s been the primary talking point for most of the week.
So what does Elliott think about Bosa’s situation? He was pretty supportive.
“I think whatever is best for him,” Elliot said, according to Todd Archer of ESPN. “I’m not really too informed about what exactly is going on but from what I understand he has a pretty significant injury and if he was able to come back and play it would only be for like a week or two. And it’s probably best for him to focus on getting that rehab and getting ready for the draft.”
Elliott played with Bosa’s older brother, Joey Bosa, at Ohio State.
The conversation seems to be mostly positive surrounding Bosa’s decision. The risk of further injury is to great and the amount of money the defensive end would put on the line is quite a bit.
Whether or not the move is the best for college football is debatable. But it’s certainly the right move for Bosa.
