Fans insist Kyle McCord deserves an apology, flame Ohio State for dismal offensive showing

Kyle McCord may have been slightly more important to Ohio State’s offense than some fans gave him credit for.
The now Syracuse-bound QB hit the transfer portal just after the end of the season, with many believing the Buckeyes all but decided to show him the door. McCord was not bad in 2023 by any means, but he wasn’t quite CJ Stroud or Justin Fields. However you spin it, Ohio State’s offense looked truly dreadful without McCord under center Friday night.
The Buckeyes scored just 3 points against the Tigers, which as some fans put it, is unacceptable. Devin Brown was forced to exit early into his stint as the starter, but Ohio State’s passers combined to complete just 10 of 24 passes for 106 yards. Missouri completed 11 of 18 for 203 yards and a touchdown.
Plenty of fans took to social media to insist the Buckeyes owe McCord an apology in the following hours of the Buckeyes’ embarrassing loss. Here’s some of the best reaction:
Hear me out, maybe Kyle McCord wasn’t the problem? Maybe you just lost in the last minute on the road to another great team? And maybe if you hadn’t scapegoated him, you would’ve finished 12-1 and perhaps in the top 5?

Can’t lie, this feels like a turning point game for Ryan Day.
Every big loss before, there’s been an excuse.
Blame sign stealing. Blame Kyle McCord
Well, there’s no excuse. Even with a third-stringer, you can’t put up 3 points. You just can’t.
This is on you, Ryan Day

Hey Ohio State fans, maybe Kyle McCord wasn’t your problem?

Kyle McCord was a more efficient passer than Heisman runner-up Michael Penix Jr., but the team ran him out of town to Syracuse after losing one game. Oops lol. pic.twitter.com/MVrnRPpaya
